Like the gardener in the parable of the fig tree (Luke 13:6-9), this Lent, we are taking some time to stop climbing ladders and staircases, to tend our souls slowly and lovingly, tilling the soil and fertilizer, and embracing our holy, “good enough,” lives.

I wonder if even just the title of today’s message has you thinking. What sorts of things are out of our control? What comes to mind?

It’s not always easy to know how other people are impacted by our decisions, our actions, our prayers, or our words, but as we keep on trying, keep on turning to God for help and letting the Holy Spirit guide us, the more we become a living reflection of our glorious God who sent us Jesus to show us how much he loves us all.

It’s not about who we are, it’s about who God is.
